Henry J. Collins

Henry J. Collins, 89, passed away peacefully, January 5, 2010 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. Born in Naticoke, PA, he was a life-long resident of South Plainfield. He graduated Bucknell University and Wilksbarrie University where he earned his degree in Engineering. Mr. Collins worked as an Engineer for General Motors in New Brunswick for 30 years prior to retiring. He also proudly served in the US Army-Airforce during WWII. Mr. Collins was a member of Holy Name Society of Sacred Heart, Vincent DePaul Society, a devoted member of the Knights of Columbus of Watchung, where he served as past Grand Knight and Comptroller and also served on the South Plainfield Board of Health. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be sadly missed.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 53 years, Anna, in 2005, his son, Gregory in 1979 and brother, Clem, in 2004.

Surviving are his two sons, Robert of South Plainfield and Edward and wife, Michelle of South Plainfield, his daughter, Carol and husband. Stephen of South Plainfield, two sisters, Katherine of Bristol, CONN and Irene of NC, six grandchildren, Jessica, Amanda, Michael, Heather, Ian and Kristy and two great-grandchildren, Jake and Hailey.

Funeral services will begin at 9:30 am Friday at South Plainfield Funeral Home 2456 Plainfield Ave. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Church in South Plainfield. Interment will follow in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield. Visitation will be Thursday 2-4 & 7-9pm at the funeral home. To send an online condolence to the Collins family, please visit
