Mary Yarema Skiratko

Mary Yarema Skiratko, 94, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at her residence in Dunedin, FL. Born in New York City, she lived in South Plainfield for over 50 years before moving to Dunedin, FL. Mrs. Skiratko worked as a cafeteria worker in South Plainfield Middle School for 20 years before retiring. Prior to that, she worked at RCA in Raritan. Mrs. Skiratko was a member of the South Plainfield VFW Women's Auxillary #6763, a devoted member of Sacred Heart Church and the South Plainfield High School Booster Club. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, George in 1995, three brothers, Stephen Jarema, Nicholas and John Yarema and her sister, Theresa Renis.

Surviving are her two sons, John and wife, Karen of Dunedin, FL and Thomas, formerly of Owensboro, KY, now of Trinity, FL, her daughter, Barbara Novak and husband, Steven Jr. of Green Brook, one brother, William of Canada, one sister, Sophie Demarco of Port Charlotte, FL, four grandchildren, Steven III and Thomas Novak, Stacy Collins and Suzanne Skiratko and one great-grandchild, Teryn.

Funeral services will begin at 9:30 am Tuesday, January 12, at South Plainfield Funeral Home 2456 Plainfield Ave. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Church in South Plainfield. Interment will follow in Resurrection Burial Park in Piscataway. Visitation will be Monday 3:30-7:30pm at the funeral home. To send an online condolence to the Skiratko family, please visit
