Helen E. Millen, 88, of South Plainfield, NJ passed away on Thursday, March 11, 2010 in the JFK Medical Center, Edison, NJ.

Born in Plainfield, NJ Mrs. Millen was a lifelong resident of South Plainfield, NJ.

Mrs. Millen was a graduate of the NJ State Teachers College of Newark and later received her Master's Degree in Remedial Reading from Kean University. She was formerly employed as a reading teacher with the South Plainfield Board of Education and worked as a teacher for 35 years, retiring in 1984. Mrs. Millen received the Middlesex Council International Reading Association Teacher of the Year Award in 1984, was a member of NJEA (New Jersey Educational Association), the NEA (National Educational Association), and a member of the 1st United Methodist Church of Westfield.



Beloved wife of the late John C. Millen, devoted mother of Linda Millen, John C. Millen, Jr. and wife Laura, dear sister of Elizabeth Kent and Margaret Coates, loving grandmother of Christian, Luke and Matthew Millen, Heather and Lindsay Bensko, cherished great-grandmother of Paige Little.

A service will be held at the South Plainfield Funeral Home, 2456 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield on Tuesday at 10 AM.

Interment will be held in Fairview Cemetery, Westfield, NJ.

The family will receive their friends on Monday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to the South Plainfield Rescue Squad, 2506 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 would be appreciated.
